Ojczyzna_[BC00,000]
Ojczyzna_(BC00,000) is a series of Fake Paintings by Jozef Michalski that treats the home-image as a damaged memory-system. The series approaches memory through inherited residue, displacement, occupation, historical pressure, and the impossibility of return.Rather than stabilising home as origin, the works hold it as fragment, trace, afterimage, and material remainder: an unstable archaeological surface that is scanned, compressed, degraded, reconstituted, and translated into a paraimage field. Operating within a postdigital paradigm, Ojczyzna_(BC00,000) leverages the digital not as a tool of representation but as a site of destabilisation. Initiated through recursive feedback loops, sonification, databending, and machinic misrecognition, the work forces image systems into errant states, subverting the intended structures of photography and computational vision. By rerouting visual information through auditory processes and encoding distortion as signal, the series reveals the latent fragility of digital cognition, exposing representation not as stable depiction but as a volatile field of recursive failure, unstable translation, and visual exhaustion.
Within this framework, glitch is neither a style nor a process, instead functioning as an autonomous force: an ontological rupture that destabilises representational systems across material and immaterial substrates. Rather than appearing as a byproduct of technological failure, glitch is repositioned as an epistemic counterforce, an insurgent modality that fractures coherence and drives structured systems into indeterminacy. In Ojczyzna_(BC00,000), glitch does not simply disclose the vulnerability of digital encoding; it actively reconfigures its epistemological function. It becomes an accelerative force, refusing recuperation, mobilising entropy as a structuring principle. The bracketed index (BC00,000) gives the series an archival and temporal charge, framing each work as a damaged coordinate, a failed inscription, or a fragment recovered from rupture. The image of home is therefore no longer a fixed referent but an emergent construct, continually assembled and undone through recursive synthesis, digital ruin, and machinic error. Failure is no longer aberration; it becomes a generative condition, an imperative mechanism of production through which memory is rendered unstable, spectral, and partially inaccessible.
Photographic depiction, in turn, becomes an abstraction in flux: disassembled and reconstituted through digital entropy, hallucination, compression, and collapse. Distortion operates as an active force that fractures perception and reveals the contingency of both visual and ideological structures. The Fake Painting becomes a memory substrate in which domestic image, historical residue, and computational breakdown are held in recursive suspension. Across the series, Ojczyzna_(BC00,000) articulates an aesthetic and material condition of collapse, interrogating the fragility of image, memory, and surface as they pass through the unstable thresholds between preservation and erasure.
